In 2007, the first Playaround workshop was born in Taiwan. Over the next decade, 41 instructors, 49 teaching assistants, and 409 participants participated in five workshop series, co-creating a collection of cross-disciplinary works that blend media art with other disciplines. These workshops paved the way for the participants’ creations that followed and opened the door to future collaborations with technical art.
ProjectPlayaround is a continuation of Playaround – a collaboration between technology, arts and other disciplines. Our Hong Kong debut focuses on the cross-disciplinary collaboration between media art and performing arts.
The year-long project begins with a series of workshops. Thirty artists were recruited in the Open Call to participate in six days of workshops led by two overseas artists. Forming groups of eight, participating artists then embark on a creative journey with guidance and feedback from our Art Director and consulting mentors. Their works will then be exhibited in the “FIRSTAGE” Showcase and School Tour and finally presented in the Finale.
Alongside cultivating artists' awareness of the cross-disciplinary possibilities of media art and performing arts, ProjectPlayaround is a catalyst for future collaborations. We hope to connect artists from the two fields and open the door to more cross-disciplinary creative projects, sparking new and exciting artistic endeavours.
